Gym Insight’s Sales Guru Feature Will Have You “Always Be Closing”
In 2007, we owned a chain of five gyms, but all the software options for managing them were terrible. That’s when we built an original software and named it “Insight” — another case of necessity being the mother of invention. Through the years, we’ve continued making that software better and better!
One of the exciting features of Gym Insight’s software is the Sales Guru Tool, which enables the potential member to instantly sign up through a tablet. Instead of giving a tour and then heading back to an office or the gym counter for 20 minutes, a person can literally sign up for a membership in moments while the excitement is high. Capturing leads on the spot through paperless contracts is something that makes Gym Insight stand out from the rest.
In the classic sales movie Glengarry Glen Ross, Alec Baldwin famously barked “Always Be Closing!” — a high-pressure mantra that defined old-school sales for decades. At Gym Insight, we take a smarter, more modern approach. With Sales Guru, your team doesn’t have to chase or pressure prospects. Instead, you can close memberships naturally and professionally, right on the gym floor, at the exact moment when the person is most excited to join. No more losing momentum. No more “let me get back to you.” Just smooth, confident closes that feel good for both your staff and your new members.

Creatine: Powering Muscles and Mind
There is perhaps no other supplement in the fitness industry that provides as much bang for your buck as creatine. Not only does the flavorless powder version of creatine cost only a dollar or two for a month’s supply, but it also enhances physical performance (supported by countless research studies) and improves brain function as documented by the latest science.
When combining creatine with strength training, a person can increase their lean muscle mass and lose fat while experiencing an increase in stored energy, regardless of age or sex. Plus, creatine has plenty of other health benefits beyond the muscle-building type.
Studies have demonstrated that creatine supplementation can improve overall cognitive functioning as well. It has been shown to increase short-term memory, focus, processing, and improve mood. Further, it has worked for healthy adults and those struggling with severe health issues such as Alzheimer’s Disease.
As a gym owner who uses Gym Insight software’s point-of-sale (POS) system, having a stockpile of creatine for members to purchase would be wise. Through a little education, more of your members will be interested in supplementing creatine when the benefits are discussed, and the cost is so low.

Kelly Morgan
MorGainz Fitness
Kelly Morgan has spent the last 14 years growing her gym empire in Pennsylvania. Starting off with just one in her small hometown, essentially because she couldn’t find a good enough gym to train at herself, she has been adding one after another every few years. Now being the owner of four gyms, MorGainz Fitness has carved out success, chiseling it into existence, one iron-willed rep at a time.
Morgan, a registered nurse, moved back to her small hometown in Pennsylvania in 2002 and was disappointed by the lack of a quality fitness facility. While completing her bachelor’s degree in 2005, she wrote a business plan for a class on how to own and operate a gym. In 2012, she dusted off that plan and launched the original MorGainz Fitness. The gym signed up more than 500 members in its very first month. What followed was steady expansion — roughly every two and a half years, another location opened. Today, Morgan proudly operates four gyms across Pennsylvania (two in Johnstown, one in Somerset, and one in Nanty Glo), totaling over 14 years in a notoriously difficult industry.
The facilities range from 12,000 to 18,000 square feet, serve more than 2,500 members, and offer 24/7 access (through Gym Insight software), complete with free weights, cardio equipment, cable machines, and selectorized gear. With a staff of about 50, over 90% of revenue comes from memberships. MorGainz is especially known for its highly effective 90-Day Fitness Program, which is available both in-person and remotely, and emphasizes teaching members how to train independently or with a partner rather than relying heavily on trainers.
Gold’s Gym Was Not Quite “Gold” at the Start Either
Our lives are full of “What If?” moments. What if we had majored in something else in college? What if we had turned down that blind date that led to meeting our future spouse? What if Monkee Micky Dolenz had been given the role of Fonz in the show Happy Days, as many wanted, instead of Henry Winkler? Whoa!!!
Like George Bailey in It’s a Wonderful Life, many gym owners have stood at the edge of closing their doors, wondering if their efforts truly mattered. They feel the weight of payroll, leases, and uncertain times, just as George faced the collapse of the family business. But as the classic film showed, one dedicated person’s persistence can quietly transform countless lives. The gyms that nearly faded away, like the original Gold’s Gym, ultimately became legendary because their owners chose to keep going, creating a ‘Mecca’ that changed the fitness world and the lives of everyone who walked through the doors.
Joe Gold opened the original Gold’s Gym in Venice, California, in 1965. As a merchant marine and machinist, he built some of the equipment and offered a basic space for people who were serious about strength training. He had the bodybuilders coming to train, but he didn’t have success financially. He sold it five years later and went back into the merchant marines.
One of the gym members, Ken Sprague, bought Gold’s Gym right as it was about to close its doors. He transformed the place and started hosting bodybuilding shows. Soon enough, Arnold, Franco, and other bodybuilding legends made it the place to lift. (Check it out in the 1977 documentary Pumping Iron to see what it was like.)
And while Joe Gold did not originally find success, he did go on to create the legendary World Gym in the late seventies. It attracted the same famous bodybuilders as Gold’s Gym did. So what looked like a failing business on paper instead became a cornerstone of fitness when the decision was made to keep the doors open and stay fighting.
