Instagram is a must-have for most gyms today. But what makes a great Instagram page great? To figure this out, we’ve reviewed several Gym Insight customers’ Instagram pages. The ones we loved inspired visits to their gyms. But why? Three reasons.

Great Instagram pages are:

  1. Well-organized
  2. Purpose-driven
  3. Reflect a gym’s uniqueness

Kage Gym Great Instagram

Well-Organized Instagram Pages

Kage Gym: An Excellent Use of Highlights

The Kage Gym, based in Mundelein, IL, is run by two Gen Z owners who kill it on social media. Omar Sanchez and Gonz Sanchez’s videos engage customers, produce humorous member interactions, and energetically promote their gym. But what really makes this gym’s social media page special is its organization.

Along the top of their Instagram page is a series of Highlights: Legs, Back, Free Weights, Amenities, Arms, Chest. Click on any Highlight and the viewer is driven to a video specifically on that subject. For example, “Legs” features 19 videos demonstrating 19 different leg machines. This is genius. So simple. In a single video, they are both demonstrating the correct use of a machine and promoting their equipment. Bam! Two hits in one.

The “Amenities” highlight features videos of their boxing area, cardio section, posing room, and turf bed. Fast. No wading through dozens of long shots of the gym.

Then, when I’m ready to learn more, the post section provides easy-to-read membership advertisements and upcoming event notices, all branded in their signature white and yellow copy. Meanwhile, videos featured in the post section draw me in as they interview members, give form tips, and remind me why I love Instagram.

Along the top of the page is copy framing Kage’s signature features: premier bodybuilding, personal and nutritional training, open 24/7, and a link to sign up today. Neat and clean.

Purpose-Driven Content

Rosamond Health and Fitness: Informative, Engaging Video

Any gym owner can feature themselves in a high-energy video. But it takes an owner such as Chris Giumarra of Rosamond Fitness in Rosamond, Calif., to turn them into can’t-miss snippets. How? By engaging directly with the viewer. His purpose-driven videos make you feel like you’re a member, even when he’s chastising you for leaving chalk on the floor.

Established in 2016, Rosamond’s is a successful, established gym. It’s reached “gym maturity,” with a full roster of committed members and a regional reputation. Now, Chris is ready to monetize his brand with a newly released coaching app called Self Driven.

Chris’s Instagram posts share the App’s development, from inception and design through to introduction and content. Yet, what makes these videos special is how steadily he reveals personal details while building a case for his coaching skills. We grow to know Chris: his background, his eating habits, his belief in the need for good coaching.

Most importantly, Chris understands and respects his viewers’ time. Timely announcements and gym schedules are posted on a Facebook page and website, respectively. Instagram posts are reserved for seasonal events such as food drives, group picture photo ops, and product promotion.

Too many gym owners assume members want to hunt and peck through an Instagram or TikTok page for basic information. Truthfully, if the member is over a certain age, they just want the facts. Chris’ strategy is baked into his brand as a coach and gym owner while providing basic information in an easy-to-find format. It’s a win-win.

Iron mayhem great instagram pages

Instagram Pages Reflect Gym Uniqueness

Cardio Club & Iron Mayhem: One-of-a-Kind Gyms

The Cardio Club and Delhi Dance Studio is based in Delhi, NY, in the Catskill Mountains. Owner Raegan Reed takes advantage of this special spot by promoting a series of outdoor events. Then, she strategically uses Instagram to keep this busy, dynamic gym organized.

First, well-populated Highlights outline her page. Then, she places special events in the tags section, each designed with easy-to-read headlines. Posts are reserved for timely announcements, schedules, and events.

Her Instagram page features:

  • An annual yoga festival and destination retreats
  • Personal testimonies
  • Equipment and fitness training tips
  • Company history
  • Pop-up class promotions

Whereas the Cardio Club promotes fun-loving dance and movement classes, Iron Mayhem is a powerlifting gym with a rough-rider feel. Based in Bristol, Virginia, owner Claude Mumpower III’s Instagram account accents this gym’s unique perspective.

The page features generous numbers of videos of members lifting Slater logs and competing in “Tennessee Hills Big Money Log Man Challenge” competitions. Posts are littered with cut bodybuilders and demanding workouts. There is no way to mistake Iron Mayhem for the average fitness club.

With a ridiculously large assortment of videos showcasing men and women lifting Ford trucks and full iron barrels, the page becomes a candy box of scrolling temptation. Company facts are reserved for the Iron Mayhem website linked to their Instagram page. So, if cut abs and crazy strength challenges are your gig, this Instagram page’s content makes clicking over to their website a no-brainer.

Learning to Use Instagram the Right way

Full disclosure — this blogger is not an Instagram expert. However, I recognize easy-to-use content when I see it. Most Instagram pages I see are a mix of ads, promos, and video without a sense of organization, purpose, or style, which is easy to do with today’s content-heavy promotional tools.

But by stepping back and thinking of your Instagram site like a filing cabinet instead of a junk drawer, you’ll create an easier and more inviting social media experience for new and current members.
